4. False friends in French

Learn about words that might confuse you when you learn French. Even though there are many words in French that sound very similar to English and have the same meaning, there are also so-called false friends - words that sound similar to English but have a different meaning.
Une Location - not a location but rent; to say location, use words like un endroit / un lieu
Un libraire - not a library but a bookshop; to say library, use bibliothèque
Ancien can mean ancient, but most of the time you would see it with a meaning former.
Attendre means to wait, not to attend. To say attend, use suivre / assister à
Monnaie - change / not money (argent)
Envie - desire, can have the meaning of envy, but it’s better to say jalousie
Coin - corner, not coin (piece)
