As a new year begins, many of us feel the pull toward goals, plans, and resolutions. Taking time to evaluate our lives can be wise and good—but if we skip a crucial first step, even the best intentions can quickly become burdens rather than blessings.

As we enter 2026, let us return to the foundation that gives real and lasting strength: the gospel. In the Book of Romans, chapter 1, we are reminded that the good news of who Jesus Christ is and what He has done is not something we outgrow or leave behind. It is the ground we stand on—the source of confident strength that roots us, steadies us, and carries us through every season of life.

The gospel does what resolutions never can. It produces obedience that flows from joy rather than guilt. It gives us identity and belonging in Christ. And it saves us—past, present, and future—by grace through faith.

Before we set goals for the year ahead, we pause to ask a deeper question: are we standing on the gospel? When that foundation is secure, everything else begins to fall into place.
