From Brewer's Dictionary of Phrase and Fable:
NORWICH. An acronym based (phonetically) on the
initial letters of ‘(k)nickers off ready when I come home’,
one of the more lubricious of such initialisms for which
there was a craze in the mid-20th century. They usually
appeared on the envelopes of love letters (a less steamy
example was SWALK, ’sealed with a loving kiss’),
fashion for them probably got going among servicemen
overseas in the Second World War.
