Back in the 90s, a Vermont filmmaker named John O'Briend made a mocumentary about retired dairy farmer who runs for the US Congress. He cast a real 73-year-old Vermont dairy farmer in the lead role, and then to promote the film, he ran that same farmer in a real election for the US Senate.
