You’re allowed to screw up. I think parents sometimes strive for their Kids to be perfect. They don’t want to feel like they’ve failed them. I say screw that. I think it’s very important to fail. That’s the best way to learn. Once you know how to do it wrong, you’ll learn to not do that thing again and eventually you’ll find the right way. By creating fear around failure, all that results from that fear is anxiety and self doubt and a complex about the individual rather than the effort. It cripples peoples growth in the future and a very destructive bad habit.
Be yourself. I tried way too hard to fit in or follow someone else’s lead on how to live. I went to university when I wasn’t ready, I bullied kids to try and get respect and i didn’t speak up out of fear of sounding stupid. I was chasing imaginary wins. I wasn’t going to graduate university because I wasn’t interested, I wasn’t going to get respect from the cool kids because we weren’t similar at all, and I’m not going to sound stupid. Just some people are going to die always trying to be right. And hey, I’m not always going to be right either. I can only have opinions and knowledge based on my experiences.
Time is the biggest asset in life. It’s not money or knowledge or cool stuff. It’s time. So many people take this for granted by working jobs they hate, worrying about things that don’t matter, talking about people to try and make themselves happier, chasing things that’ll never come because of selfish intentions or being under the influence to forget and wallow in pity rather than take action and control of their situation. We have so many hours in a day. 8 hours of work sounds like a lot. But there’s still 16 more in a day for your goals, your family and friends, and sleep. Do not waste your time. You can’t slow down time, but you can slow down your progress.
Never underestimate yourself. You have skills and qualities and abilities. Once you learn how to apply them in productive matters, then you’re off to the races. I taught myself web and graphic design in middle school. That opened the door to wrestling. I learned compassion through my relationships and the restaurant industry and it’s made me a much better person. I taught myself video editing for my friends and I’s videos. And I can apply all of these qualities today to come to you and deliver my message. Be aware of your skills and use them every day.
