Like most people, Jamie Case started developing her career before having kids.  Jamie is the Executive Director of Gateway Pet Guardians (GPG), a nonprofit animal organization.  She worked hard to get GPG where it is today, which includes opening a brand-new and much-needed resource center for the organization. 

Now that she has two small children, she feels like she can’t give her all to GPG, but she wants to!  Jill Devine and Jamie discussed how hard it is to manage work with two small children because you constantly feel like a distracted mom; you’re not present at work because you’re thinking about your kids and you’re not present at home because you’re thinking about work.  Jamie said she realized there is no such thing as “work-life-balance” after listening to a “TED Talks”, which described life as “work-life-Jenga”.

Jamie also stressed the importance of teaching and showing her children a strong work ethic.  She considers herself a strong, independent woman and she wants her children to recognize and model that same behavior.  Like many other career-focused parents, Jamie is trying to figure it out by practicing patience and making mistakes along the way.
