Day 2: Motive behind fasting

Zech 7:5 - Say to all the people of the land, and to the priests: ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months during those seventy years, did you really fast for Me—for Me?

When people of Judah were as slaves in Babylon for seventy years they fasted two months in every year. Now they came back to their land and started about their own work. They had this doubt as whether to fast or not. For that question Lord replied with this question.

When they lived in Judah before they didn’t fast because life was good. When as slaves they fasted because they were in troubles.

Don’t we all do the same…..we need God more when things are not going our way.

People fast for many reasons. If we ponder on this for a bit…we can easily know that some fast for health reasons, some for beauty reasons, some just to be seen by others and then some as just a ritual.

Real fasting is actually a ministry that we do for Lord.
