Day 3: Practice of Fasting

Is 58:5 - Is such the fast that I choose,

a day for a person to humble himself?

Is it to bow down his head like a reed,

and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him?

Will you call this a fast,

and a day acceptable to the LORD?

Israelites had one strange complaint against God. They fasted and prayed and nothing happened. Their prayers were not answered.

How many of us can identify with such scenario?

This leads to a question of what kind of fasting is acceptable to the Lord. In the following verses, Lord gave a guideline of what can be an acceptable fasting. For a fasting to be acceptable….there needs to be

1. Humbling of self

2. Penitence

3. Letting free

4. Almsgiving

How are we practicing our fasting?

Hosea 6:6

For I desire mercy and not sacrifice,
And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
