40 Days Fasting Prayers 2025 - Day 4
Day 4: New Testament Fasting
Matt 9:14,15 - Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Is there a difference between fasting according to Old Testament to that of New Testament?
Absolutely. Old Testament fasting is works based, legalistic fasting. People used to fast for the Lord to come and do things for them.
But for us people living in New Testament…Lord has already come….he has already done great things…..he defeated satan already.
Now we have Holy Spirit God living in us continually.
We tasted his great and mighty works too (if we are born again).
New Testament fasting is to have MORE of what is in our lives already.
Lord spoke of new wine (Joy) and new clothes (works) in this context of fasting.
We can’t patch New with Old. New Testament fasting is from the position of victory to have more. 🙌🙏
Phil 2:13 - it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
