Receiving a confession part 2

Gleaned from Celebration of Discipline p.154-157

  • Already talked about living under the Cross.
    • Nothing someone says can disturb us
    • Frees us from temptation of “Spiritual Domination” (use confession against someone, attempt to control them or straighten them out)
    • Keep confidence
    • Prepare with prayer.
      • Asking for more of Jesus to shine through us: His love, acceptance, forgiveness…
      • For discernment, how to minister post confession
      • Asking Jesus to stand in-between
      • Pray for them while they share
      • Be silent while other shares. (NO offhanded comment to relieve tension, no prying for more information).
      • Silence in the room can be a powerful open door for the person to share more.
      • In the authority of Jesus announce forgiveness
      • Pray out loud with the person. For healing of inner wounds from the sin. Feel free to lay on hands
