The Amazon rainforest is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on our planet and home to many people, including indigenous peoples. But the rainforest is under threat, deforestation is escalating and we are fast approaching a "tipping point" which could have dire consequences for life on this planet. In November 2025 the world's countries will come together for the COP and negotiate how to deal with the climate crisis. We know a lot about the drivers of deforestation, but one mechanism has been under-communicated and remains rather unknown. Coincidentally this mechanism is clearly visible in Belém, the city in Brazil where this year's COP will take place: the illicit cocaine industry. This is an episode you do not want to miss! Our guest is Neil Woods, a committed drug reform and environmental activist. Neil's field of expertise is corruption stemming from the financial power of the drug markets, which he witnessed first hand as an undercover cop in England. In this episode he will recount his realization of the corrupting forces of drug crime in the UK, before diligently mapping out the destructive global powers of the illicit drug economy, which threatens the Amazon and our very survival on this planet. Episoden er tekstet til norsk trykk på videoen for å undertekst.
