Fact: JAWS most iconic lines “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” was improvised. As screenwriter Carl Gottlieb told The Hollywood Reporter, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” had become a running joke on the film’s set, meant to signal small mishaps. “It became a catchphrase for any time anything went wrong –the line was ad-libbed at various times in the movie, and this is the one that made it into the final cut.
