This has to be one of the best conversations on the topic of affordable housing we've ever had on the show. Our guest this week is UBC Professor of Geography, David Ley, a long-time teacher, student and advocate of affordable housing in Vancouver. In fact, David has been studying affordability here for the past 45 years!

David is a prolific voice on housing in Vancouver and is often featured in the media discussing the demand side of Vancouver real estate. He is the author of Millionaire Migrants - an examination of the migration career of wealthy migrants who left East Asia and relocated to Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States, in the 1980s and 1990s.

As the title of this episode suggests, in this conversation David takes us through a history of unaffordability in Vancouver - how we got here, and what he thinks we can do about it now.

Although our stance on the show has largely been that more supply is the answer to the housing crisis, David's demand-side approach is quite compelling.
