#41: THE NEW YOU - Defined by Your Future Not Your Past

I love the saying 'The past is a great teacher but a terrible master'.

The past is just that, passed. Over. Done. Finito. There is nothing we can do to change it. It's like wishing you had that rainy vacation day back. The only thing we can do with the past is learn from it. And hopefully, one rainy day doesn't stop us from going on vacation again.

Past regrets often hold us captive. Too much focus on the past will detach us from the present and rob us of a better future. We have no control over what has been done, only on what we do with what's been done.

On the other hand the future is unmade. It is defined only by our choices. How are we going to show up? Better yet, how do we want to show up?

You are different today than you were a year, a week, or even a day ago. Change is inevitable. But what if you could define your present by your future rather than your past. This is the power of goals. This is a power only possessed by humans—to imagine a better future and  intentionally act to create that reality. A reality that does not now exist.
