From 1973 to 1985, American confidence in organized religion was at 60 percent, higher than confidence in any other instituion. Today, only 38 percent of Americans say they have a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the church or organized religion. When skepticism about faith and confidence in the church is at its lowest, 62 percent of Americans (6 in 10, 3 in 5) do not trust the church, we need to give them a reason to believe.
