Do you put the “fun” in your Dysfunctional family? Yeah, me too. I open up today about why I often use the term “family of origin” and how important it is to live a life that we love, surrounded by people whom we feel supported by. I also offer my own theory on the commandment of Honor thy Father and Mother, and what it means to do so, even when they haven’t been honoring of us.
As we approach the holidays, I know it can be a trying time for many. For me, it is especially hard. I hate “feel good” movies, Christmas makes me remember the times my life was in jeopardy, and when my life was literally changed forever. No, I’ll never be a normal woman, my childhood terror shaped me into who I am but it also makes me cherish the people I choose to put into my life that much more; and makes me grateful for the good things as well. I hope you gain some comfort from today’s episode as we learn what “honor” means and how we can set healthy boundaries and be there for ourselves too.
Bible Verses Referenced: Deuteronomy 5:16
