The pressure is now on Moses to inspire his people to cross the river Jordan into what has been spun to them as the Land of Milk and Honey. 
Everything depends on the success of his pep talk. 
He begins with a history lesson.
After all, if they are confident that God has been with them so far, there's no reason why he shouldn't go ahead of them across the river.
