43. Using anger as a positive force to change your life and transform the world

Research by the Harvard Decision Science Lab shows that anger both encourages people to believe they can control their future and anger also motivates them to take action.

This week’s Love Your Creativity And Make Money podcast is about using anger in a positive way, whether it is anger at yourself for not following through or being angry at what is happening in the world around you either in your own environment or in the world at large.

I recorded this the day after George Chauvin has been found guilty of the murder of George Floyd in the US, I doubt anyone knowing that George Floyd was killed by the police officer with a knee on his neck over 9 long minutes with bystanders yelling for the police to stop, cannot not be angry. However we can choose to use that anger by doing something about it, taking action, demonstrating, making creative work about the racism in the US and elsewhere, perhaps setting up local community help centres, whatever the right action looks like for you.

Being angry throughout life is not good, but turning the focus of feeling such anger at external circumstances and shift it to focus on what you need to change in your life, what actions you know you need to make to make a difference, that has power.

Anger also works in more intimate circumstances, where you feel you are letting yourself down or refuse to get drawn into another similar situation.
Questions like
What have I had enough of?
How can I shift my anger and my frustration to create a better world for myself and those aroud me
What actions can I take so I don’t ever have to experience this again.
What have I finally said enough and what next step action must I take?

This anger as a positive driver is a great way to take such strong energy and turn it from the negative, including violence or suppression and use it to encourage and motivate you.

Dr Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela took their anger at the way their worlds were and fought using words, peaceful actions but they were angry enough to stand up to say no and keep saying no. They changed their worlds.

Read Maya Angelou’s Still I Rise to remind you to keep on rising.

Eminen the rapper in his 8 Miles movie is a great example of using his clever words to ‘fight’, to not get drawn into hopelessness but to keep getting back up. To rap that intelligently, with clarity took years of practice.

The basketball player Michael Jordan was famous for his anger, opposing teams were taught to never get him angry by trashtalk on the court as he would suddenly pull off a super human move and seem to fly. Sure he also trained ferociously and focused but his will to do the work no matter what is incredible.

Even as an artiste or creative if you are not practicing, showing up, getting that project finished then use anger to get you going. Where have you had enough and what are you going to do about it?

About me, Marysia Trembecka

I am at heart a storyteller and this has translated from the initial creation of work to being a performer, including film and theatre acting, writing and performing international touring comedy shows to MCing.

Highlights include sell-out Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe shows, singing at the Royal Festival Hall in 23 different languages, as well as doing TEDx talks and corporate gigs, such as the Brit Awards Afterparty at the 02 as my ‘The Singing Psychic’ bio queen character.

My ‘THE SINGING PSYCHIC’ who ‘reads the songs in your heart’ also has a GAME SHOW version, and was a finalist in Best Show, Funny Women in 2016, and I have toured internationally since then.
I have also produced five webseries as the character including my 23 episode SONGS OF BREXIT webseries I made for the June 2016 EU Referendum, on the pros and cons of the EU, I started the web series singing The Clash’s ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now’. It was very wll received due to the blend of education and entertainment, and I ended up on London Live and even a BBC2 Live Debate on the National Living Wage amongst other press of the back of that.

I also was awarded Arts Council funding for research on a solo show on how we are all judged by our sexuality, so as part of that, I interviewed people on the cutting edge of sexual politics. From this I then created another character ‘Queen Of The F*cking World’ which has also toured internationally from Glasgow WOFF film festival in the female perspective strand to sell-out London, Edinburgh and Adelaide runs. I sing and play the bass guitar and guitar in this show.

My film acting credits can be found on IMDB and indeed my projects are on my media gallery
