43 Why Saying "You're Doing Fine" Isn't Communicating What You Think

Listen Later

In todays episode we are tackling two things I hear said often that don't quite communicate what the person saying them thinks they do

Here are the cliff notes:

Saying #1 You’re doing fine

  1. Allows people to stay where they are - even if they are exhibiting destructive behavior or vices
  2. No invitation to grow and be better
  3. Giving up on them in a way

Instead say: I see you and your effort, keep going

  1. Gives real encouragement
  2. Invites them further
  3. Gives them purpose and lets them know you’re in their corner

Saying #2 It should be easy if its meant to be

Mathew 16:24-26

24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?

What is right will always take work

There is a difference between hard and hard work

Neither should stop you

Eternal life is worth every discomfort we think we will experience
