An umbrella is a simple tool, yet it teaches us everything we need to know about the power of process.

When it rains, an umbrella protects you from the drops, though you might still step in puddles. When the sun beats down, it shields you from getting burned, though not from the heat.

Umbrellas come in different shapes, sizes, and colors. You can fold them up or put them away. They don’t block you from enjoying a sunny day or even walking in the rain. But under many conditions, they give you just enough protection to keep moving from where you are to where you need to go.

That’s how a process works. It won’t protect you from mistakes, experiencing the agony of defeat, the boredom of consistency, or from not feeling confident. But an established process will always help you move from where you are to where you want to go—under any condition.
