Listen Later

Welcome to Episode 44! In this episode, we are joined by Emmy Award-Winning Journalist, Christina Lopez. Throughout her career, she has worked for ABC News and 20/20 where she splits her time between producing, reporting, and writing. Christina has also contributed to landmark stories like The Boston marathon bomber, hurricane sandy, and the Amanda Knox Story.Given the state of journalism, distrust in the media, and general state of "being informed", I wanted to bring on a practitioner who has the academic credibility and the industry credibility doing local and national news to help set the record straight. In this episode, Christina shares with us her story, her insight into the state of news/journalism, as well as, answers to questions like;- What was it like reporting during historic, landmark stories like The Boston Bomber, Amanda Knox, etc.? - In a world where everything is “breaking news”, how does the news run differently during big stories compared to the average stories?- What was it like writing your own love story, literally (meeting your future husband while following a story)!?- What can we do as average, everyday Americans to navigate the challenges associated with staying informed? - Although technology has changed how we distribute and receive the news, what fundamentals of journalism have held up over time?- How does the world of academia and the "industry" compare? What held up from school and what was not as it was portrayed?- How do local news and national news differ? The process and the role it played in the community?- What is and is not true regarding how pop culture portrays the life of a journalist (like in Newsroom or House of Cards)?…and much more.Interested to Learn More?Follow Christina Lopez on Twitter @CLopezReportsRate & Review! If you enjoyed this and previous episodes, it would mean a lot if you would rate and review!Podcasts are a conversation & that means your voice should be heard
