Because of his tenacity and cunning, Roy Olmstead rose to become the largest bootlegger in Seattle's history and one of the most well-known figures in Northwest history during the city's "dry" years in the 1920's.
He began his career as a police officer, where he learned the ins and outs of the illegal booze importation business while conducting arrests.
When he was sacked from the police force as a result of his own arrest, he went full time into bootlegging, eventually becoming one of the major employers in Puget Sound, thanks to his fleet of vessels, warehouses, accountants, salespeople, legal counsel, couriers, and other employees.
Good things never last, and eventually all of this would come crashing down around the ole Rum-running King of Puget Sound.
