“The way we view sin, grace and God’s redemptive love shapes the righteousness we live by.” - @janicechinchern
In week 2 of our series ‘Missing Jesus’, we take a look at the Pharisees and how their self-righteousness pulled them away from God, because in their emphasis on keeping the law and honouring God, they neglected the fuller picture of God’s intent: restoration of the shalom of God.
In their self-righteousness, the Pharisees placed rules above relationship, status over people and conformity over love and unity. But God calls us to a righteousness that is primarily about right relationship with Him and others, and we embody His heart and desires.
May we be a people who would reject self-righteousness for God’s righteousness, walking in the Spirit to experience the fullness of God’s unconditional love and grace for us and live with hearts of generosity towards the people around us.
