Was Lavinia Fisher really America’s first female serial killer or have her exploits been greatly exaggerated over the last 200 years? She and her husband John ran a hotel outside of Charleston, South Carolina in the early 1800s and the couple were reportedly members of the Six Mile Gang. Although the facts are scarce, John and Lavinia were arrested in February 1819 for the assault of David Ross but were sentenced to death the following January for highway robbery. The infamous couple, once held in high esteem by the locals, was executed by hanging on February 18th, 1820.
