Laura Jean Anderson is not an easily defined artist. And, that’s fine with her. In this episode, we catch up with Laura Jean as she is still unpacking the effects of a strict religious upbringing and a career threatening vocal injury. Both of these landmark experiences have provided Laura Jean with an understanding that music, art and life doesn’t have to fit into strict, binary perspectives. But, there can be nuance and shades of grey amongst a culture that often settles into black and white, us vs. them thinking. This has provided inspiration to Laura Jean’s songwriting in which she creates lyrics with meanings that morph and change and become all the more poignant because of her strikingly beautiful singing. During the show, Laura Jean performs three songs live from the Joy Sounds studio – “Lonesome No More,” “You,” and “Who am I to You.” Follow Laura Jean @laurajeanandersonmusic
