47 - We are the aroma of Christ

WE ARE THE AROMA OF CHRIST

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing."
(2 Cor. 2:14-15 NIV)


Scientists reckon that 'smell' is our most powerful sense; would you agree?

There's a certain aroma that can be best described as “wardrobe -mothballs.” It usually enters my nostrils when I pop into a charity shop to browse for a tweed jacket. It’s amazing how this smell transports me back to 1993 when I’m walking around in my nan’s house.
Even now, as I imagine this smell, I see her behind the stove, cooking for us with a big smile on her face.
How incredible that our brains can connect these aromas with memories from years gone by…
Paul uses this imagery to remind followers of Jesus that we carry a pleasant scent. One that should attract others to the Source of Life – Our heavenly Father. These aromas remind us that Jesus is victorious even unto death, for by the Power of the Spirit He defeated evil.
But how do we carry this aroma with us? And how do we KNOW that others share the same memories of Christ’s resurrection when they smell and taste God’s goodness?
