This week on The Library with Tim Einenkel, Jay Z’s former tour DJ, DJ Neil Armstrong.  In Part 1 of the interview the Queens, New York native begins by explaining why he needs three phones to play Pokémon Go and then we get into DJ Armstrong’s history in Hip Hop. Armstrong talks about first hearing Newcleus’ Jam on It played on New York City radio as a kid. He covers his years going to church as a child and the many early hip hop legends that played a part in his education. Armstrong remembers a time when radio and MTV refused to play rap, a time when Fat Beats ruled, and DJs actually had battles to decide who was supreme. The 5th Platoon member talks about touring with Jay Z and what songs make a DJs set daring.
