Sarah Pitell is studying opportunistic pathogens for her PhD research at the University of Pittsburgh. Opportunistic pathogens are what they seem - pathogens that take advantage of an immune system that's compromised in some way. In her work, they study exposure to these pathogens in drinking water and in household showers. Enjoy!
