This week I sat down with Cass from PlantWithCass, a Sydney-based terrarium maker and workshop host who’s all about helping people grow better little ecosystems inside glass. In this episode we dug into what actually keeps them healthy long term – the water cycle, the soil balance, airflow, light and the natural progression of plants as the system matures.
Cass shared heaps of practical insight from running Sydney workshops and seeing the same questions (and mistakes) pop up again and again. We spoke about choosing plants that work not just for the first few weeks, but months down the track, thinking about how things grow upward and outward, which plants eventually create structure or shade, and why understanding that slow succession inside a closed system makes such a difference.
We also talked about why glass ecosystems can sometimes look perfect when they’re built, then struggle later, how humidity, compacted soil or still air can quietly throw the balance out, and how a good terrarium is really just nature doing its thing on a mini scale.
Big thanks to Cass for joining me, and thankyou as always for tuning in. Let us know what resonated with you!?
