Not Perfect, Still Worth It | Fourth Quarter Marriage
Remember that football retreat we talked about? We made the plan, prepared our family, talked through communication, and hoped we had figured out how to make those two nights apart successful.
Now it’s time for the post-game debrief.
Because the truth is… the retreat wasn’t perfect.
Some things worked really well. Some things didn’t. There were moments that were harder than we expected, and moments that reminded us why preparation, communication, faith, and teamwork matter so much in a football family.
In this episode of Fourth Quarter Marriage, we’re looking back at our football retreat and asking the questions that really matter: What worked? What didn’t? What surprised us? What would we do differently next time? And perhaps most importantly, what did God teach us when our plans didn’t go exactly as planned?
We’re talking honestly about marriage, parenting, football, disappointment, expectations, and what it looks like to adjust the play instead of assuming the whole game is lost.
Because marriage—especially during football season—isn’t about executing every play perfectly. It’s about learning from the plays that didn’t work, encouraging each other when someone fumbles, and remembering that we’re on the same team.
In this episode, we talk about:
- What actually worked during our football retreat
- The parts that were harder than we expected
- What we would change if we could run the retreat again
- How unmet expectations can affect marriage and family
- What God can teach us when our carefully made plans fall apart
- Our practical Post-Game Debrief for couples navigating hard seasons together
Scripture: Proverbs 16:9 — “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
If you’re a coaching wife, football family, or simply a couple trying to navigate a demanding season of life together, this episode is a reminder that a hard experience doesn’t mean you failed. Sometimes you just need to watch the film, learn from it, and run the next play differently.
Because the goal isn't a perfect marriage.
It’s a marriage that keeps choosing each other.
