So you see a job advertised or internal vacancy and you think, yeah I could be interested in that.
But before you make a move your imposter syndrome reminds you that you probably aren't that good. Your skills won't be at the level they're looking for. You are not good enough.
Other companies do things differently and you've been blagging it for this time.
This held so many people I've worked with back and I was determined to find some ways to help benchmark your skill competency so that you can:
a) Get more #confident in what you have to offer and
b) figure out your development areas.
Unlike my usual musings this post is very geared towards hard skills if you want to explore strengths and natural talents keep a lookout for the espisode 'Finding my Superpowers'.
Now this list should serve you in two ways, firstly to identify your base knowledge and second to LEARN and use for development.
1 Accreditations/ Certifications
2 Check out Podcast Content - How much can you follow? - but be open to new information
3 Teach someone what you know - master your domain
4 Meetups/Talk to Peers - how do they do things?
5 Conferences /Presentations - how much base knowledge do you have?
6 Read books - Which level do you feel comfortable with now? And what's next?
7 Ask People - Feedback can be a great way of getting outside perspective
