If you follow the @thecakemamas Instagram, then you know we recently organized a garage sale for all equipment and stuff from the bakery after closing down the business. During the garage sale, I met so many awesome people who wanted to buy the equipment. Since most of them were small business owners, I made some interesting observations, which I thought would make some good lessons.  

The first lesson I want to share with you is to stop making yourself small. During my interaction with the people who came for the sale, I realized many people make themselves appear small even when what they do is a huge deal for them. Eddie and I believe that doing this impedes your growth and doesn’t give you the confidence you need to become a successful business owner.

Another observation I made is that people want to hold onto things. Many people who came for the sale never believed that I was ready to let go of all the bakery stuff. Having closed the bakery, it didn’t make any sense to continue holding on to the stuff. Once you outgrow some things, continuing to hold on to them for sentimental value doesn’t help you move forward.
