Many people believe that the only purpose for salvation is to keep them out of hell. Because of that, once they are saved they are content. They see no other benefit in salvation and no other responsibility, in their lives, toward God. But we have been saved to serve Him - Ephesians 2:10. We are all familiar with vv. 8-9 that tell us, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: (9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.” But vs. 10 says, “For we are his (God’s) workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” "Workmanship" talks about a product. (It speaks of the thing made.) The word is “poiema” from which we get our word “poem.” It is from a word that means “to make” or “to do.” We who are saved are God’s doing! We are God’s handiwork! We are His epic poem to the ages of His marvelous grace. In John 10:10 Jesus said: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” People quote this verse and say Jesus promises the “abundant life.” But look at it. He says, “that they might have it more abundantly.” "Abundantly" means superabundant (in quantity) or superior (in quality). Some think of this as merely a satisfying life. The prefix on the Greek word is “peri,” around. Jesus gives us an all around, abundant, complete life. When He abides in us (we are saved) and we abide in (live for) Him we can live a full and complete life. Someone said, “Serving Jesus can add years to your life and life to your years.” In vs. 6 of our text Paul talks about “the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” In this message I want to look at and remind us of at least 5 of those “good things” which are in us which we have because we are in Christ. They are:
I. WE HAVE ADOPTION -- EPHESIANS 1:5: ROMANS 8:15.
II. ASSURANCE -- II TIMOTHY 1:12.
III. ACCEPTANCE.
IV. ABILITY.
V. ASPIRATION (HOPE) - TITUS 2:13.
