How to Properly Perform a 5-Tire Rotate: Step-by-Step Guide
A 5-tire rotation is essential for maintaining even wear and extending the lifespan of your tires. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to properly perform a 5-tire rotate:
Ensure your vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged. Gather the necessary tools, including a jack, jack stands, a lug wrench, and a torque wrench.
Using the jack, lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
Loosen the lug nuts on each tire using the lug wrench. Remove the tires and set them aside.
For a 5-tire rotation, you will include the spare tire in the rotation. A common pattern is to move the front tires to the rear and the rear tires to the front, while the spare goes to the rear left position. This ensures even wear across all tires.
Reinstall each tire, ensuring they are correctly positioned according to the rotation pattern. Tighten the lug nuts by hand first.
Carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground and remove the jack stands.
Using a torque wrench, tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s recommended specifications.
Finally, check and adjust the tire pressure as needed. Properly inflated tires ensure better performance and longevity.
