5 Tools to Quiet Negative Self-Talk (That Actually Work)

Recording live from surf camp in Bahia, Brazil, where the waves (and my inner critic) have been intense. After getting wiped out in the ocean and spiraling into thoughts like “I suck at this,” I realized it was the perfect moment to share 5 friendly tools I use when that inner voice gets loud.


1. Name the Voice – Give your inner critic a name to create distance (mine’s Jordano 😅).

2. Get Curious, Not Critical – Ask what’s really going on beneath the thoughts.

3. Interrupt the Loop – Use breath, movement, or touch to reset your nervous system.

4. Replace the Voice – Speak to yourself like someone you love.

5. Connect with Something Bigger – Nature, spirit, community, whatever reminds you you’re not alone.
