There are a lot of items deemed ‘essential’ for new parents dealing with the ‘what on earth are we doing’ phase of parenting. I would replace ‘essential’ with ‘useful’ simply because, without the following, life actually could have been a lot harder. I can’t help thinking that tribal women somehow survived without them so perhaps that’s good to remember.
