51. Dr Edith Egel Dont think of yourself as a victim but victimised
Podcast 51 for Love Your Creativity And Make Money.
I am just reading Dr Edith Egel, she has two books The Gift and the Choice. She is a Holocaust survivor and is now 90, a great grandmother and spent many years as a therapist specialising in treating PTSD and survivors.
She talks about how you should never see yourself as a victim but as someone who was victimized. She argues that seeing yourself as a victim means you have lost power and it is very difficult to get strong again. However seeing yourself as victimized by a person or the environment gives you strength to start again and heal.
I do not subscribe to this idea that all great art comes from great tragedy but I do recognise that through our life experiences we can use our unique voices in our own creative waves to teach, talk, discuss, illuminate or inspire is a wonderful use of our pain or life experiences. So seeing yourself as having been victimised vs a victim according to Dr Eger gives you more power. I would also argue you can become a victor by standing up and healing as well

My ‘THE SINGING PSYCHIC’ who ‘reads the songs in your heart’ also has a GAME SHOW version, and was a finalist in Best Show, Funny Women in 2016, and I have toured internationally since then.
I have also produced five webseries as the character including my 23 episode SONGS OF BREXIT webseries I made for the June 2016 EU Referendum, on the pros and cons of the EU, I started the web series singing The Clash’s ‘Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now’. It was very wll received due to the blend of education and entertainment, and I ended up on London Live and even a BBC2 Live Debate on the National Living Wage amongst other press of the back of that.
I also was awarded Arts Council funding for research on a solo show on how we are all judged by our sexuality, so as part of that, I interviewed people on the cutting edge of sexual politics. From this I then created another character ‘Queen Of The F*cking World’ which has also toured internationally from Glasgow WOFF film festival in the female perspective strand to sell-out London, Edinburgh and Adelaide runs. I sing and play the bass guitar and guitar in this show.
