FORWARD IN FAITH

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God based on faith.

(Philippians 3: 7-9)

Ooft, that’s quite the statement!

For Paul, his past doesn’t have a hold on him; it doesn’t define him as much. Since his conversion on the road to Damascus his main priority has been to know Christ and to share in his suffering and experience the
power of his resurrection. His earlier resume and CV about past accolades and achievements aren’t worth much… he wants to live free and rely on Christ’s laurels instead of his own.
According to Paul, there’s not much left for him to achieve…
That’s some plan for ‘life’ Paul – hats off to you!
I mean, is that still possible for us? To deny ourselves and follow Christ? Do people still find themselves so enmeshed in Christ that nothing else matters; not even thier past? And if you say, ‘yes’ – who are these people, and can we follow suit?
