Rev. Erick du Toit brings today's reflection from Kirkliston Parish Church, Scotland.

PEACE & JOY: OVERCOMING ANXIETY

"Celebrate God all day, every day. I mean, revel in him! Make it as clear as you can to all you meet that you’re on their side, working with them and not against them. Help them see that the Master is about to arrive. He

could show up any minute! Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life."
(Philippians 4: 4-7)

On Tuesday it was World Mental Health Day. In Scotland, around 1 in 4 people are estimated to be affected by mental health problems in any year. Maybe you're affected as well?
I see a lot of parishioners suffering from anxiety. It seems that there are more and more pressure on people to perform and outclass one another leading to added stress.
Our passage for this week helps us to refocus our thoughts when we're faced with affliction and hardship. In light of all the warfare going on around the globe (the latest being all that's happening in Israel and Gaza) it would serve us well to once more make Christ our safe haven and fortress.
How do we do that? By living in His Peace and experiencing the Joy of knowing that we are saved. Those things can't be taken from us. It also helps to talk about our feelings of fear or regret or depression. If you are feeling anxious and in need of a cuppa, PLEASE make contact. We'd love to grab you for a cuppa. So many people suffer in silence; know that we are here to support you.
