Justice-Centered Parenting

53. Peace + Power for Justice-Centered Caregivers: A Lesson from the Forest

Listen Later

As justice-centered parents, we want to build a future where everyone can flourish.   Capitalism, Patriarchy, and White Supremacy Culture constantly undermine our efforts, making us feel like our contributions are insignificant. They view caregiving work as insignificant. They’ve conspired to internalize the message that we have no right to claim a justice-centered identity.   In this episode, I borrow a lesson from nature, a la Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer. On our land, our contribution to the future health of the forest is not in tending to the tall trees directly, but in clearing brush and tending the seedlings.   Sometimes the ways we are best situated to contribute to a more just future are not the most glamorous or visible, but they are still significant. Let’s recognize the power in our unique role as caregivers.  We can build a flourishing future. Right where we are.   Subscribe now to stay updated on future episodes.
