As an educator, she was drawn to what makes people tick rather than simply teaching the textbooks. Leigh Doherty was also inspired to coaching leadership because of what she saw as a common "absence of mentorship" for many, while re-examining common held beliefs the how a leader of an organization can interact with his or her team. Her career in education and her ultimate journey back to the Berkshires has her now leading Literary Network of Southern Berkshires (LitNet), with a small, but mighty, staff and 130 tutors who make a powerfully positive impact. In our conversation, we cover the economic impact of bringing English literacy to (primarily) immigrants to the Berkshires, the origin of the organization in the 1990s and how it has evolved rather significantly, new partnerships with public schools, younger tutors joining many of the traditionally retired volunteers, and much more.
