After realizing their mistake, Banu Isra’il sought repentance and were commanded to take the lives of those who had worshiped the Calf. Musa was commanded to choose seventy men to represent them all in turning back to Allah and renewing their pledge. Despite being the best of their tribe, these people were rebellious before Allah. Only upon being threatened with a great calamity, did they finally submit.
