Debates and design research require adequate data, most definitely, but what data we choose to present, and what we ignore, is up to us. And that is where the poison of the confirmation bias creeps in. It is worthwhile to remember that we often favour information that confirms a pre-conjured belief which we have high emotional investments in, and that we often ignore and try to actively stamp out information that contradicts us. This is wrong. This needs an antidote – all this and more in this episode, based on an excerpt from the Universal Principles of Design.
