56: Projection - The Coping Mechanism Everyone's Doing and No One's Fessing Up To

Listen Later

Sigmund Freud was wicked smart.  His concept of displacing one’s feelings onto a different person, aka projection, in order to avoid confronting uncomfortable or unacceptable feelings or impulses about oneself is a brilliant coping mechanism.  “It’s not me, it’s totally you.”  The problem with projection, Blazer Nation, is that it inhibits connection and keeps us from acceptance of our true self.  Noone is perfect and when we project we fail to recognize our own faults and insecurities.   We don’t own our s&*t and we get stuck.

This week Katie and Nora talk projection and wonder what each of us assumes about others.  What qualities do we unfairly attribute to others in order to shame dump?  How do we reconcile blame shifting and how can we stop the projection cycle?  Better yet, how do we recognize when and why we project (because, let’s face it, we all do) and what can we do to healthily cope when we are in a self-critical state?

As always, we want to hear from (gorgeous) YOU!!  What assumptions do you make? Tell us how you project?  Been projected on?  How do you recognize when you aren’t owning your S*&%?  Need relationship advice? Spill the tea - we want to hear it all!!

Let's keep showing 2021 who's boss - for reals!!
