This Sunday's text is 1 John 3: 16-24. In these verses we encounter what might be considered one of the most troublesome words in all of God's inspired word--the little word “if." While not so difficult by itself, in certain contexts it can ruin your day. Verse 17 is the culprit. I won’t print it here so you will read the whole passage for yourself. Question: Do you want to the be the kind of person that wants it said of you, “The love of God really lives in her/him?" Then if you have the resources to help someone and don’t do it, you are negating that claim. Ouch. Just how far do you think we should take this?
