Each side has factors that justify why they believe in the values they are part of. It can be very important to live in a progressive society, but it is also very important to live in truth and tradition. Each can be very dangerous. The issue isn't the morals or the values themselves, moreover it is the lack of willingness to accept change. A lack of understanding of your opponent renders your own beliefs useless - what's to say you don't believe in the other side if you refuse to understand them? Pride is very strong, to push past that notion of superiority is what generates change.
