Before Barbie, there was Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig's solo-directorial debut. Lady Bird is a semi-autobiographical film written and directed by Greta Gerwig about a girl named "Lady Bird" (portrayed by Saoirse Ronan) as she battles her senior year of high school and an all-consuming mother (portrayed by Laurie Metcalf). It takes place in Sacramento, California at the fictional Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic High School.
