Moon Wives

6. Growing Older, Losing Control, Supporting Friends

Listen Later

Sierra and Amanda dive right in, talking about being attractive in their 30s and enjoying the experience and wisdom that comes with age. They harken back to their feelings of overwhelm dating in their 20s without boundaries and how that resulted in bitterness and resentment.

Sierra talks about how her new mantra, "The more Jiu Jitsu I do, the more money I make" has positively affected her life and business and reflects on how powerful our minds are.

The dynamic duo goes on to discuss S.A.D. Seasonal Affective Disorder and some tools to use when suffering from this; including getting outdoors, taking some herbal adaptogens (a natural substance considered to help the body adapt to stress and to exert a normalizing effect upon bodily processes. ex. ginseng). Emotions can be hard to deal with on our own, especially in the world we are currently living in.

Amanda opens up about feeling out of control and how destructive she would be in those moments and the importance of having a solid support system that can hold you and help pick up the pieces. She reveals that she recently experienced an "out of control" moment with someone close and how important she felt it was to stay and remind that person of the true them~ under the ugly.

Sierra gets vulnerable as she talks about a desperate time, in her recent past, where she had suicidal thoughts and felt unheard when she opened up to a friend who was ill-equipped to support her. She and Amanda discuss some of the tools they use in their daily life to keep their negative, irrational thoughts at bay and emphasize the importance of seeing a professional coach or therapist OR someone who is able to hold space for you to explore your tough emotions and thoughts.

Sierra and Amanda remind the listeners to tend to self, how your basic needs are so important to address and key to overall emotional health. Watch your alcohol intake, pay attention to your sleep patterns and diet.

Amanda reveals how hard it can be to empathize with people who have depressive thoughts and how she has had to learn that sometimes just sitting in it with someone is the best way to support and leave the advice or "fixing" for later. Both ladies discuss some options in how to best support someone going through a rough time.

This is a bit of a heavier episode, but one we thought important during this winter season and in light of recent events in their personal lives.
