#6: Hooligans in Revolt

Listen Later

Producer: Segun Awolowo
Football goes further than which team scored the most goals. Football has the power to bring people together like no other sport. But what happens when these people are together not to celebrate but for other reasons? This podcast considers the phenomenon that is football hooliganism as well as its birth and developments over time. Rather than the plain view that hooliganism is just fighting, this podcast aims to go deeper and analyze reasons why these men act the way they do. The podcast looks at European ‘Hooligans’ as well as ‘Ultras’ in the middle east and how their ideological differences affect the ways in which they interact with the state.
Segun Awolowo, graduated from Warwick Law School 2018 and is currently undertaking the Nigerian Bar Examination.
