Pleasing people and finding validation in what other people think of me has long been a vice in my life. I've struggled to separate what others think about me from what I think about myself. I've felt worthy when others praised me, but hurt and empty when they rejected me. Recently I've received an abundance of negative and hateful comments, and it's forced me to reevaluate the way I let others control how I see myself. It has been quite a journey to learn how to detach myself and my worth from outward validation. In this episode, I share how I learned to be truly free and appreciate the unique pieces of myself by giving people permission to misunderstand me.
No matter what people say or think about you, when you know who you are, they have no power over you.
